Elizabeth visited Carlisle Castle as a representative of her husband, Henry Widdrington, for the funeral of Henry Scropes. While there, she helped investigate the theft of horse from Henry Dodd and loaned Robert Carey three horses for his secret trip into Scotland.
Elizabeth left Carlisle Castle for home when ordered to do so by her husband. Later, she wrote a letter to Robert Carey telling him not to attempt to see her again. She added a verbal message that she loved him.
